Gobblet Gobblers - funny strategy game for kids

Have you ever heard about Gobblet? And Gobblet Gobblers? These funny words hide even more funny game of strategy for small kids.

I’m sure that everyone likes playing. From the early ages till the end of our lives we play. Everything starts with rattles comes through computer games, probably gambling and ends with solitaire or something like. And at the beginning of our life there is a considerable period of playing board games. This period also has several stages and I’d like to tell you about how and when a child can start playing strategy board games.

Once your kid just starts playing board games the most important thing here is the attractiveness. It must be interesting to play; otherwise the game will be boring. So, at the early stages the way how the game looks like is vital.

So, what is Gobblet Gobblers? This is a specially created edition of Gobblet board game by Blue Orange. Gobblet itself was designed in the early 00ths by Thierry Denoual, who even founded own firm later to share his ideas with the whole world. Gobblet Gobblers have similar, but less strict rules that are easily can be understood by small kids. And the key feature here is how the game looks (so that’s what we need)! Each player receives 6 colored funny gobblers of different size (2 big, 2 medium, 2 small) at start. Gobblers. One gets blue and another orange. And the game begins.

How to play Gobblet Gobblers? It is very simple! On each turn you place your gobbler on the board. And the trick is how to do this as there are several options.

  1. You can take one of your gobblers and place it on a free cell on the board
  2. Or you can take any of your gobblers on the board and more it on another free cell
  3. Or even more tricky! You can get your gobbler and put it over (gobble) your opponent’s piece!

And the one who build a row of 3 gobblers wins. Easy, but very interesting, especially because of p.3 above.

Gobblet Gobblers is much more variant game than tic-tac-toe. The ability of changing the place of gobblers on the board on one hand and the need to remember what is hidden under each gobbler on the other hand develops kids abilities to think, analyze and remember. This could be very boring process if you don’t have a Gobblet Gobblers game, but with it everything becomes easy and natural.

Kids like Gobblet Gobblers and ready to play more and more. The match usually lasts 3-5 minutes, but once it is over you want to play again.

When to start Gobbling? Well, everything depends on your child, of course. One will be ready at 4, another at 5 (like vendor says) or 6. This is completely individual. We shouldn’t push the child and he’ll definitely like Gobblet Gobblers when he’s ready. This could happen even later, but in this case I recommend original Gobblet game, as it is more adopted for elder children.
